A recently established company located in South Florida has its roots deeply connected to Jamaica.
Grocery List Jamaica embodies a simple yet innovative concept. It operates as a website designed to assist people worldwide in shopping for their loved ones residing in Jamaica.
Jermain Morgan, the COO of Grocery List, explains, “If you’re part of the diaspora in Canada, the United States, or the UK, you can now shop for your relatives in Jamaica. The selected items will be purchased from local stores and delivered the same day.”
Morgan reveals that the inspiration for this venture stemmed from his business partner’s struggle to find a better way to support his ailing mother in Jamaica. Instead of merely sending money for her to buy groceries, he sought a solution to shop for her and have the items delivered directly to her doorstep.
Morgan elaborates on how the process works, “You visit our platform, select the items you need, specify a date, time, and location for delivery. One of our trusted shoppers in Jamaica receives a notification on their phone. They then proceed to the store you’ve chosen, near your relative’s location, and purchase the required items. As mentioned, we provide same-day delivery.”
Every purchase made on the platform supports local businesses in Jamaica, mirroring the structure of food delivery apps commonly used in the United States. Morgan emphasizes that using their website also contributes to job creation within Jamaica.
“At present, we have nearly 400 employees in Jamaica, and they are enthusiastic about being part of our company,” states Morgan. “We are establishing a brand in Jamaica, and as we say, Grocery List was created by Jamaicans, for Jamaicans.”
This innovative business was launched in May and is accessible across the entire island. Morgan proudly mentions, “The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Our customer service has been exceptional, and we’ve received a great deal of enthusiasm. People have expressed their happiness that this initiative has been introduced, as it not only supports us as founders but also generates employment opportunities in Jamaica.”
